The first edition of Roche HealthBuilders has recently ended. The event is an open innovation call for ideas, addressed to startups, public and private research institutions and digital communication experts (national and international), aiming at developing digital design ideas to fulfill needs and solve the daily problems and challenges of patients in the areas of Oncology, Neuroscience and Rare Diseases. The call for ideas is structured into two different kind of solutions: improving the economic sustainability of the National Health System and improving the patient's experience during his path in the treatment of the disease.
In 2018 Roche launched the first edition of the Roche HealthBuilders program was dedicated to the discovery of innovative ideas and startups operating in three particular therapeutic areas: Neuroscience, Oncology and Rare Diseases. The call was focusing either on 'Customer Experience' solutions, aimed at supporting and facilitating the patient's experience during the disease treatment process and facilitating and caregiver’s journey alongside the patient and on 'Healthcare Sustainability', to improve the economic sustainability and increase the social sustainability of the National Health System.
The winner of Roche HealthBuilders Award and of a 12-month mentoring program provided by Roche experts, was SIENA Imaging Team. Composed by Marco Battaglini, Nicola De Stefano, Giacomo Demurtas, the team came up with "SI.Nlab" project within Healthcare Sustainability area. This solution is dedicated to the oncology and neuroscience therapeutic area where SI.Nlab provides a virtual platform for the analysis of brain MRI scans, employing tested algorithms and visualizers to obtain a fast and precise overview of patients’ selected biomarkers.
The Best Healthcare Sustainability Idea Award consisting of a 6-month coaching program with Roche experts and was awarded to the team composed of Federica Zappalaglio, Chiara Zuccato, Nadia Parolari, Federica Violanti, Paola Palmerini for the app "HOME", designed for the therapeutic area of neurosciences in the field of Healthcare Sustainability. The HOME App is dedicated to all those involved in Huntington's disease to connect patients and local organizations and consists of two interfaces: the first dedicated to the caregiver (HOME 1), the second addressed to professionals and social workers working in the care system (HOME 2).
The winners of the Best Customer Experience Idea Award, accessing to a 6-month coaching program with Roche experts, are the doctors Stefano Carugo, Andrea Cordovana, Daris Ferraris for the "Monitoraggio a distanza" project. Belonging to the oncology therapeutic area, in the Customer Experience area, the idea copes with the need to constantly monitor the short and long-term cardiological complications of cancer therapies for breast tumor.
